Russia Deploys Bombers to Iranian Air Base

In a significant development for the conflict in Syria and for the Middle East generally, Russia has deployed a number of bombers to an air base in western Iran. The bombers – Tu-22M3s and Su-34s – will conduct airstrikes from the Hamedan air base against militant groups in Syria, in support of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s forces. Continue reading

Harris Lands $47 Million Order from Middle East for RF-7800M Radios

Harris Corp recently announced that in 2015, it received a $47 million order for wideband radio systems from an undisclosed nation in the Middle East, reportedly as part of the customer’s tactical communications modernization program.  According to Harris, the systems will be used to support a C4ISR network employed by the nation’s military and security forces. US Seeks to Reassure Its Allies Over Iran Deal

786666Ever since coming to office, United States President Barack Obama has maintained a “dual track policy of engagement and pressure”[i] toward Iran in the hopes of pressuring Iran through sanctions to come to the negotiating table over its nuclear ambitions. On July 14, the P5+1 – China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, plus Germany – reached a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with Iran over the latter’s nuclear program. In the weeks since the July 14 announcement, President Obama has worked to reassure skeptics that the deal the negotiators reached is sufficient to stop Iran from having the ability to develop a bomb.
